Sam Hunt Arrested for Speeding and Interlock Device Violation. Sam Hunt has been taken into custody for speeding and violating an interlock device requirement.
The country singer, 40, was arrested in Tennessee on January 20, which reported the news on Wednesday, January 29. Hunt was later released the same day after posting a $1,500 bond.
A representative for Hunt told TMZ that he will not face charges related to the incident and will simply pay the speeding ticket.
Sam Hunt’s Legal History
This latest arrest comes more than five years after Hunt was taken into custody for driving under the influence. In November 2019, the “Body Like a Back Road” singer was arrested after driving the wrong way on a Nashville road.
He later pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor DUI charges in August 2021. It was confirmed at the time that his sentence included 11 months and 29 days in jail for DUI first offense and DUI per se.
A police report from Hunt’s 2019 arrest stated: “When officers got behind the vehicle, the driver had difficulty staying in the lane of travel and crossed the center divide several times before a stop was initiated.”
Upon making contact with Hunt, officers detected “an obvious odor consistent with alcoholic beverage coming from the defendant, as well as red, bloodshot, and watery eyes.”

His blood alcohol content (BAC) at the time was recorded at .173, significantly above the legal limit of .08, according to the arrest warrant. Hunt was released hours later on a $2,500 bond. The following day, Hunt took to social media to issue an apology for his actions.
“Thursday night I decided to drive myself home after drinking at a friend’s show in downtown Nashville,” he tweeted. “It was a poor and selfish decision, and I apologize to everyone who was unknowingly put at risk and let down by it.”
He assured fans, “It won’t happen again.”
Sam Hunt’s Personal Life and Marriage to Hannah Lee Fowler
A Grammy-nominated artist, Hunt is known for chart-topping hits including “Take Your Time,” “House Party,” “Hard to Forget,” and “Outskirts.”
In 2017, he married Hannah Lee Fowler, who served as the inspiration behind his Montevallo album. The couple had been in an on-again, off-again relationship for nearly a decade before tying the knot.
Their relationship faced turbulence in 2022 when Fowler filed for divorce, citing “inappropriate marital conduct” and “adultery” in court documents. At the time, she was pregnant with their first child.
However, the couple ultimately reconciled, withdrawing the divorce filing before welcoming their daughter, Lucy Louise, in May 2022. Their family grew again in October 2023 with the birth of their son, Lowry Lee.
In November 2024, Hunt and Fowler announced they are expecting their third child together.
