You know what? Let’s give props to Breaking Benjamin, a band that’s managed to stay relevant in the music scene for over two decades.
They’ve finally returned with new music—their first since 2018’s Ember—in the form of a new single titled “Awaken.” You can check it out below.
“Awaken” also marks a significant milestone for the band as their debut under their new label, BMG.
This is a big shift considering their incredible loyalty to Hollywood Records, which they’ve been with since releasing their first album, Saturate, back in 2002. Meanwhile, I can’t even get a text back. Anyway, Jasen Rauch, the band’s guitarist, shared his thoughts on the new single:
“Working on this song has been something new and exciting for all of us, I believe.
We’ve been able to explore more of who we are traditionally while at the same time push boundaries and try things we haven’t done in the past. Musically we’ve tried hard to stay true to what Breaking Benjamin is, but offer a new take as well.”
Frontman and founder Benjamin Burnley also opened up about the band’s creative process and gave some insight into their upcoming album. Speaking with Full Metal Jackie on KLOS’s Whiplash show, Burnley explained:
“Yeah, it’s been the longest we’ve ever gone without putting out an album, but the strange thing is, I don’t know if it’s ’cause of the pandemic or not, but it doesn’t seem like it’s been that long, to me anyway, but it has been a long time.
I think that a lot of that is just that we have, with every album that comes out, there’s just another whole album’s worth of stuff.
We have a lot of songs in our catalog, so it’s kind of like it gets to the point of, like, we’re not gonna add any more to this just to add more to it.
We need to keep true to what this catalog… When I am gone off the earth, and that’s all that’s left of me behind, is my offspring and music is what I’ve left behind, I want it to be really solid.”
Honestly, I’m thrilled they’re expanding their already impressive catalog. When it comes to Breaking Benjamin, there’s no such thing as too much music.
