The release of The Mars Volta’s latest album has been anything but conventional. It all began when the band hit the road with Deftones and started performing their new record, Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacío, in its entirety during live shows.
Then, in an unexpected turn of events, frontman Cedric Bixler-Zavala reportedly handed his own copy of the album to a food delivery person. Despite all this, Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacío has never been formally announced or even acknowledged by the band’s label, Clouds Hill.
Now, adding another layer of confusion, Bixler-Zavala recently promoted a pre-order of the album through Fingerprints Music, a record store in Long Beach, CA, via his Instagram account.
According to the shop’s website, the album is set to be released on April 11. The listing includes the following description:
“The Mars Volta’s ninth studio album represents a significant milestone for the band, which has been continually reinventing itself for more than 20 years.

With Lucro sucio; Los ojos del vacío, they deliver an album that celebrates their roots, allowing them to reconnect with their origins. Fans are invited to embark on a musical journey.”
If that wasn’t enough confirmation, the album has also appeared on Amazon for pre-order. So, despite the unusual rollout, it seems safe to say that a new album from The Mars Volta is indeed on the way next month.
