The first-ever Femmy Awards took place in spectacular fashion on Thursday, March 27, in Miami.
Held amidst the many events of Miami Music Week, the awards ceremony was organized by Femme House, the nonprofit founded by LP Giobbi and Lauren Spalding.
The organization is dedicated to creating and celebrating equity in the music industry by amplifying the voices of women, femme, gender-expansive LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC creators.
The afternoon event unfolded on the waterfront patio at the Palm Tree Club, a hotel opened by Kygo and his manager, Myles Shear, in December.
With the sun shining and the bay breezes flowing, LP Giobbi and Spalding presented a range of awards, recognizing artists, festival brands, executives, and other key figures in the dance music world.
The ceremony kicked off with powerful speeches from Barbara Tucker and Crystal Waters, who were awarded the Voice of House for their groundbreaking contributions to the genre over the years.
DJ Minx and DJ Lady D were also honored with the Pioneer Award for their exceptional work in breaking barriers and reshaping the dance and electronic music scenes, paving the way for femme, non-binary, and LGBTQ+ artists.
In addition to these honors, several other artists were recognized. Kaleena Zanders and Aluna Francis won the award for Best Live Performance, Coco & Breezy received the Carolyn Horn Trailblazer Award (named after LP Giobbi’s late piano teacher, Carolyn Horn), TSHA was awarded Best Producer, Xandra was recognized with the Rising Star Award, and Sara Landry took home Producer of the Year.
The event also acknowledged a number of executives. WME’s Stefanie LaFera was presented with the Theresa Velasquez Award for Outstanding Executive, and Bailey Greenwood, also from WME, was named Agent of the Year. Billboard served as the official media sponsor for the event.
