Country singer Angie K and her longtime partner, Marissa Boucher, are engaged. Angie, 33, popped the question to Marissa, 42, during a romantic trip to Tulum, Mexico, earlier in February.
“Marissa’s family has Mexican roots, so I wanted to honor that by proposing in one of our favorite places, Tulum,” Angie shared exclusively. “There’s an amazing eco-friendly hotel called the Papaya Playa Project that has a private beach.”
She continued, “It’s such a dreamy location—it really immerses you in the natural beauty of Tulum. Marissa is notoriously difficult to surprise, but I don’t think she saw this coming.”

Angie and Marissa, a photographer, have been together for a decade. While they had previously agreed that marriage wasn’t a priority for either of them, their perspectives eventually shifted.
“I honestly wasn’t sure how she would respond,” Angie admitted. “I took her to dinner at a restaurant down the beach from our hotel, and at sunset, I led her up to a secluded rooftop nearby. It was just the two of us, standing on a deck overlooking the water.”
She then opened up about the heartfelt words she shared before proposing. “I told her how much she means to me and explained that the ring represents more than just commitment,” she recalled.
“It symbolizes a promise to always seek joy together, to build a life worth living, to strive to understand before seeking to be understood, to care first and solve problems later, and to love her as she is while growing and evolving together.”

“As soon as I pulled out the ring and she saw it, I knew she was going to say yes,” Angie gushed to Us. “We both started crying—it was the best moment of my life. Then, completely unexpectedly, she ran to grab her bag and pulled out a ring for me too! It was such a surreal moment.”
The night became even more special when, as they walked back to the restaurant, a violinist began playing some of their favorite songs—completely by chance. “It was the perfect way to end the night,” Angie shared.
Angie and Marissa first met 12 years ago on a cruise ship, sparking a cross-country friendship. Two years later, their relationship turned romantic when Angie moved to California—where Marissa lived—to audition for The Voice in 2015.

After Angie’s time on the singing competition, she relocated to San Diego to be closer to Marissa. In 2019, the couple made the move to Nashville, a journey Angie documented in her song “Leave California.”
Now a rising star in country music, Angie is set to release her self-titled EP on Friday, February 7, featuring a collection of deeply personal tracks.
“These songs mean so much to me, and it’s incredible to have such a supportive space for them,” she wrote on Instagram last month.
