Three members of JANE’S ADDICTION—bassist Eric Avery, drummer Stephen Perkins, and guitarist Dave Navarro—are collaborating on new music.
On Friday (January 3), Avery posted a short video on his Instagram, showing him recording bass tracks in a studio.
In the caption, he wrote:
“Writing some more new lines to some of Stephen’s drumming. Look forward to getting some Mr. Navarro on them. 2025! @stephenperkinsdrummer @davenavarro.”
This collaboration comes after a challenging period for the band. In September, JANE’S ADDICTION canceled the remaining dates of their tour following an onstage altercation between vocalist Perry Farrell and Navarro.
he band issued a statement explaining they had made the “difficult decision to take some time away as a group,” attributing the cancellations to what they described as a “continuing pattern of behavior and the mental health difficulties of our singer Perry Farrell.”
The joint statement, shared by Navarro, Perkins, and Avery on Instagram, expressed their concern for Farrell’s health and safety, as well as their own.
It read:
“Our concern for his personal health and safety as well as our own has left us no alternative. We hope that he will find the help he needs.”
The band members also expressed regret for the cancellations but acknowledged they could not ensure a safe environment on stage or consistently deliver high-quality performances.
They concluded the statement with: “Our hearts are broken.”
Later that day, Farrell took to Instagram Stories to apologize, writing:
“This weekend has been incredibly difficult, and after having the time and space to reflect, it is only right that I apologize to my bandmates, especially Dave Navarro, fans, family, and friends for my actions during Friday’s show.”
He continued:
“Unfortunately, my breaking point resulted in inexcusable behavior, and I take full accountability for how I chose to handle the situation.”
Despite the turmoil, JANE’S ADDICTION released a new single, “True Love,” shortly after the tour cancellation.
The track, which had been performed live for the first time in 2023 and at a few other shows, was the second new single from the band’s classic lineup of Farrell, Navarro, Perkins, and Avery. Their first new single, “Imminent Redemption,” was released in July 2024.
“True Love” was co-written by Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins, with additional contributions from touring guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.
“Imminent Redemption” was recorded at Sweetzerland Studios in Hollywood, California, and marked Avery’s return to the studio with JANE’S ADDICTION since the band’s classic 1990 album Ritual De Lo Habitual.
The song was first performed live during the band’s first show with its classic lineup in 14 years, held at London’s Bush Hall on May 23, 2024.
Navarro, however, had to miss JANE’S ADDICTION’s shows in 2022 and 2023 due to his battle with long COVID.
His place during those performances was filled by Josh Klinghoffer, who has also recorded with Eddie Vedder and performs with PEARL JAM. During 2022, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE’s Troy Van Leeuwen also stepped in for Navarro.
The fall 2022 “Spirit On Fire” tour marked the first JANE’S ADDICTION tour in over a decade to feature Avery, who had rejoined the band. Before this, Avery had played with the group briefly in the 2000s before departing again in 2010.
