Dave Grohl turned his FireAid concert Nirvana reunion into a special family moment. The Foo Fighters frontman, 56, took the stage alongside his fellow surviving Nirvana bandmates, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, at the benefit concert on Thursday, January 30.
The performance featured an array of celebrity guest vocalists stepping in for the late Kurt Cobain. St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Joan Jett each took turns on vocals, performing “Breed,” “School,” and “Territorial Pissings.” The evening’s finale saw Grohl’s eldest daughter, Violet, 18, taking the mic to sing “All Apologies.”
“Violet Grohl, come on down,” Novoselic, 59, said as he introduced her on stage. Dressed in a long-sleeved black mini dress, Violet greeted the audience with a simple, “Hi, L.A.,” before turning back to glance at her father, who was seated behind the drums.
Violet showcased her impressive vocals on the 1993 In Utero track, with Grohl joining in on backup harmonies. As the song came to an end, an emotional Grohl beamed with pride at his daughter and longtime bandmates.
Dave Grohl’s Family Life
Grohl shares Violet, as well as daughters Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10, with his wife, Jordyn Blum. Violet is no stranger to sharing the stage with her dad—she previously joined Grohl and the Foo Fighters during their set at the Glastonbury music festival in June 2023.
She also performed a cover of Adele’s “When We Were Young” alongside her father, who played guitar, at a benefit concert in Oakland, California, in May 2018.

Grohl, Violet, and Nirvana were among several artists performing at FireAid, a benefit concert aimed at raising funds for those impacted by the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, which began earlier this month.
Dave Grohl’s Personal Controversy
The father-daughter moment at FireAid comes just three months after Grohl publicly acknowledged the birth of a fourth child outside of his marriage.
“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” he revealed in a September 2024 Instagram post. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her. I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”
Dave Grohl’s Ups and Downs
In his statement, Grohl also asked for privacy, saying, “We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved as we move forward together.”
In response to the news, Violet and Harper deactivated their social media accounts. While Violet has since reinstated her Instagram profile, Harper’s account remains private. Grohl, for his part, has not posted on social media since his announcement.
Shortly after news of the scandal surfaced, Jordyn was seen in public without her wedding ring. However, reports indicate that she and Grohl spent the holidays together. “They are all spending Christmas as a family,” a source told in December 2024.
