Billy Ray Cyrus is keeping things in the family for his upcoming studio album, enlisting his son Braison Cyrus to take on the role of producer.
“This is art imitating life, imitating art,” Billy Ray, 63, expressed in a statement shared with People on Friday, January 24. “It all begins and ends with art. Braison is incredibly talented, and [2025] is his time to shine. I’m honored to be a part of this journey. This record is going to be something special, and I’m preparing for what promises to be the adventure of a lifetime.”
Billy Ray shares Braison, 30, with his ex-wife Tish Cyrus. The former couple, who finalized their divorce in 2022, are also parents to daughters Miley Cyrus and Noah Cyrus.
Additionally, the “Achy Breaky Heart” singer adopted Tish’s eldest children, Brandi Cyrus and Trace Cyrus, following their 1992 marriage. Billy Ray also has a son, Christopher Cody Cyrus, from a previous relationship with Kristen Luckey.
Several of Billy Ray’s children have pursued careers in music, following in their father’s footsteps. While Miley and Noah have built successful careers as award-winning artists, Braison has taken a different path, focusing on work behind the scenes as a songwriter and producer.
“This past year has given me the opportunity to get to know my dad better than ever before,” Braison shared in his own statement on Friday.
“I’ve heard stories, jokes, and songs that no one else has. It’s an incredible chance to share my dad’s journey through music, and I feel fortunate to have this opportunity. Music, storytelling, and family are the most important things to my dad, so bringing them together feels like a full-circle moment.”

Billy Ray’s upcoming album, his 17th overall, has yet to be given a title or a confirmed release date.
The country star’s relationship with his children recently became a topic of public discussion after Trace, 35, voiced concerns about his father’s well-being, claiming that the two-time Grammy winner was not in a “healthy” state.
“The man I once admired and wanted to be like is now someone I barely recognize,” Trace wrote in an Instagram post on Wednesday, January 22. “It seems like the world has worn you down, and everyone but you can see it. You may be upset with me for saying this publicly, but at this point, I really don’t care.”
He continued, “For years, my sisters and I have been deeply concerned about you, but you’ve pushed us all away. Noah has longed for you to be present in her life, yet you haven’t been there for her. She’s your baby girl, and she deserves better.
Still, just like me, she continues to idolize you. We are all holding onto memories of the person we once knew, hoping that someday you’ll return.”
Although Trace admitted he was uncertain about what his father was struggling with, he extended an offer of support.
“Please understand that this message comes from a place of love and deep concern,” Trace concluded. “I fear that the world may lose you too soon. I’d love to help you if you’d be willing to accept it. You know how to reach me. Until then, I will continue to pray for you.”
As of now, neither Billy Ray nor his other children have publicly responded to Trace’s remarks.
