The Mestizo Coffeehouse, a west side community gathering place, will hold a fundraiser for Mariachi Juvenil de Utah, a group of 12 violin, guitar, guitarron and vihuela players between the ages of 8 and 19. Based at West High School, the enthusiastic group has been told by the Salt Lake Education Foundation that its funding is endangered.

Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference

Mariachi Music, Voice, and Folkloric Dance students of all ages attend this annual four-day Conference that includes three days of educational music workshops, led by Mariachi Cobre, as well as dance, coordinated by Rodolfo Hernandez and Jorge Badillo, Directors of Ballet Folklorico Paso del Norte. Maestro Rafael Zamarripa is the 2009 Master Artist, and he will instruct a Master's level class for directors, choreographers and creative consultants. The workshops provide a quality educational experience through a unique cultural arts program that recognizes and celebrates diversity.
